This morning I saw a link in a friend’s del.icio.us account to CPUShare. CPUShare is a research project that creates a low cost worldwide supercomputer. CPUShare allows users to buy and sell CPU usage using GNU LGPL licensed software and paypal. I have not tested this yet, but it sounds amazing, get paid for letting others use your idle computer.
FiOS is in my area and I will plan on getting it soon. I was wondering if there is a way I can create a “share bandwidth” system. I am guess it would be diffcult because your ISP limits your bandwidth, but what if you create crons or some system like bittorrent that would framgment the data and send it late at night during low peak usage. Just a thought…
