I have been meaning to pickup a Wii, but refuse to stand in line and wait an hour or more before a store opens. This morning I was surfing the web and noticed on target’s website that you can put in your zipcode and check to see if a wii is in stock. To my “amazement” it was!!! Not only in 1 Target store, but in all 4 Target stores that surround me.
I picked up the phone and gave them a call… once a Target representative pickedup the phone I begain to explain how I noticed the availability of a wii on target.com. The target representative explained how they are avalibe, but will not be on sale until Sunday. During Sunday Target puts an ad in the local newspaper about how they have wiis in stock. I was persistant and asked to speak to a manager. After another 5 minutes of waiting, I spoke to a manager and explained the problem. “On your website it shows that a wii is available in the store, can you cofirm this so I can come down and pick one up”. The manager asked me for my name and told me to come to the electronic section and ask for a wii.
During my “lunch break”, I drove down to the Target store, asked one of the Target representatives that I am here to pickup a wii. The Target representative went into the back room, came back with a wii in hand. She processed my order at the electronic section rather quickly and explained how I had 3 months to return and/or if defective.
So now I have a wii and all it cost me was about 10 minutes on the phone, rather then an hour or more in the cold on line.
I have the wii siting here waiting to be played, but I have to get back to work. Anyway, I might think about calling up the other 3 Target stores, doing the same … social enginering Target into giving out their inventory of wiis and post them on ebay.
Please let me know if others try this out at their Target stores and how social engineering Target can get you a wii!
