As if you did not know I am a news junkie! I love news, well most news; hearing about Briney Spears and Anna Nicole Smith is at the bottom of the list, but we will never forget where we were on 2/8. (Thanks Ron and Fez) Anyway, a bunch of people have been asking how to do I stay connected, so I wanted to post up a couple of cool sits and ways to help organized the internet for YOU!
First and foremost, get a del.icio.us account! del.icio.us is a social bookmarking website. There are many cool features and functions on how you can use del.cio.us.
- Organize your bookmarks for view on any computer
- Share links between friends
- Browse links by Tags
- Create a global Tag
We all know del.icio.us can store our links with tags, such as web, design, etc, but how do we share links. If you know the username of a del.icio.us (mine is jmurch). You can share a link with a friend by using the tag (for:username) or for:jmurch in my case. You can also create a global tag by using a tag as a identifier for a website. For example, if you wanted to share links with myself and other readers you can use the tag johnmurch. Anyone can view the links just by going to http://del.icio.us/tag/johnmurch. This can create a community in a sense and a digg-like effect for a specific site. So if you want to hear content about something and its a interesting link, please tag it with johnmurch. I will check on this and if it becomes popular, add a feed to the column on the right.
Second, get a RSS FeedReader (Bloglines or Google Reader or setup a News Folder in your bookmarks and have Firefox “open in tabs”. Each morning and night I am checking the news and surfing the web. I like to read and hear stories before they happen or at least before they hit digg, engadget, or a feed agregator like popurls or spotback. Having a easy way to open all the sites or get their content speeds up the process.
Lastly, one last way I would suggest on how to stay connected, is to look at other del.icio.us users. Please take a look at my tags such as news, blogs, and my latest. You can “subscribe” to other del.icio.us accounts and see what they are bookmarking.
Enjoy!
