I am frequent traveler who does NOT like to check luggage. Checking luggage at and airport and waiting to pick it up takes a lot of time, which I do not have. It even drives me nuts when I have to “gate check” luggage. Anyway, I am FORCED to remove my shoes every time I have to walk through a metal detector but on TSA’s Website it clearly states “Passengers will not be required to take off their shoes before going through metal detectors, but should understand that their chances of being selected for a more thorough, secondary screening will be lower if they do.” If you do not remove them, you get to spent a nice 30min (or more) standing their getting physically groped and raped by some person who may or may not have their green card. (at least my experience thus far) I do not feel security is tight and we need to take it to the next step. We have the technology to scan and xray every person and see if they are carrying anything from liquids to guns. You can see this “technology” at the Skyharbor Airport in Phoenix, AZ.
If you are thinking, WTF this guys is just bitter, (umm no) let me tell you I should be the first person who cares about high security! I was traveling home from London during the plan attacks and had to have a 6 hour flight with NOTHING for entertainment, not even a magazine, I couldn’t even carry food! Honestly I even know 9/11 victims personally, this “security” just is NOT SECURITY but a “feeling” of security.
I just find it hard to believe that we can not x-ray or properly search and find the proper “terrorists” rather then take advantage of some 90+ year old who can not stand up who they are strip searching because she forgot that she had a bottle of water in her purse. The other “WTF” thing that goes on thru the “security checkpoint” is you have to show your boarding pass not once but twice. Once you enter the line you have to show it with a Government Photo ID, and then again after you walk thru the metal detector. If the first person cleared you, what is the second person looking for? Do they have a fear their TSA agents have been compromised? How hard and long does it take to become a TSA agent. I vaguely recall looking into this process and know that the government runs a extensive background check on you, but how can this be it seems like everyone TSA agent I meet fits the profile of a terrorist or at least someone I would NOT want to walk next to in a dark ally. This background check gives me some security with the people screening me, but seriously I have not meet a TSA who I couldn’t see as a terrorist. I am not trying to be racist or radical, I am just saying it how I see it. I do not think I am racist and understand how this would be offensive, but if I was of middle eastern decent I would be protesting what is going on and be the first to say, hey I hear this from a friend, I want to report them. Seriously, I do not want to offend anyone, I just want to tell it as is! I am just trying to travel worry free without the fear a bomb or something else plotting an attack that is flying with me.
TSA needs to take the next step and actually make us feel more secure by actually xray or searching peoples luggage and/or personal strip searches rather then just have everyone take off their shoes and keep their laptop separate from the rest of their carry on. Come on, who is with me on this?
