Well after having a beta account for a couple of days, they went live! You can sign up now for aideRSS. Since I have been thinking about creating my own [insert web 2.0 buzzword] news website I have been very curious at what is coming out of the web 2.0 community that deals with RSS/News/etc. So lets start witht he bad and rave about the good later in this review.
Issues
- Can’t force a higher ranking for stories (IE: Digg like vote for storis up/down; post rank is created outside by counting comments, bloglines, technorati, del.icio.us)
- Can not filter by all RSS fields, This means I can not only see the top 20 of all my feeds. WTF?!? Seriously I want to only read the 8.0+ post ranks stories on all my feeds.
- Post Rank is flawed, the ranking system on 1 story from 1 RSS feed does NOT equal the same ranking on another RSS feed. For example most of my blog post are either 1.0, 7.0, or 10.0, a 7.0 BUT this does NOT mean its worth a 7.0 on engadget. ( Or am I just that good of a blogger, hehe DEF NOT!)
Okay, so now that I am done sticking it to aideRSS, I have to say WOW. I am pretty impressed with what you have coded so far, and the UI is pretty easy to use. I have NOT found a quick way to add all 100+ feeds that I spend an hour or so doing on Google Reader, so please add a cool xml upload field which allows me to create/upload a list of feeds. I am curious what you build this on and how some of the “analyze” works. Are you creating a database with all the RSS feeds and having a crawler ping and check against the updating date? This is a BIG ISSUE that drives me nuts!
One thing that RSS needs is a ping out, so you know WHEN to check the RSS because it updated and sent out a message. This idea of a ping out should be used to provide a specific number of servers a quick list of when news updates. I know there are systems out there that are constantly hitting and seeing if the feed has updated, but a way to automate this process so you do not WASTE all this time/cpu/etc checking.
So there are some suggestions for aiderss. I think what you have done so far is great, I will prolly use it to help save time viewing news and spend more time enjoying life.

Thanks for spending the time to try AideRSS out! We actually do have a tool that allows you to upload your list of feeds. To use the tool, first login to your account and then click on the “My account tools” button. On that page you’ll be able to import and export your ompl list that contains your RSS collection.
Thanks again for trying AideRSS out. We certainly will try to address the issues that you mentioned here soon.
