Redesign for John Murch the Geek Guru

So, if you are a regular visitor you will notice I changed the design of my blog. I do not consider myself a graphic designer, but I have been trying to do something new and creative. I have been spending the past week dealing with Photoshop CS3 and plan to buy it after my trail version runs out. I have always been unhappy with my blog design, but did not want to spend the time to fix it. Well I must have gotten some juices flowing because I did and I think it looks great!

Looking back on projects I have always thought that content is the most important thing, but talking to people I see that the design and User Interface is more important then the content, even though that might sound funny, I am just amazed at how people see things. So, if you want to get those juices flowing, add me as a del.icio.us user to your network. I tend to keep a web design tag of  webideas. I try and post various cool designed websites using this tag. This works great to reference 1 or a couple of websites, but if you want to flip through 100 sites, this could take a while.

So me being a Geek Guru, I have thought up a new way to assisting in web designing. I downloaded paparazzi and started to go through all those websites and take a screenshot. I set it up so I take a thumbnail version and a full size version (1024×2000), why 2000 you ask, sometimes the footer is a bit far down and it can help with some design ideas.

So I now have a couple hundred screenshots of websites and I can easily create/view all of those sites one 1 page and quickly view them as an image and/or click the to go to the link. This has been working for me, but I might look at creating a PDF or print out emagazine to hand out. There are so many cool design sites that prolly get little to no traffic, but are MUST to check out.
