Since my move to Arizona, I have started to pay more attention to local news rather then what’s happening in NYC. Well some friends have been pushing stories to my del.icio.us feed and send me this link on NPR.
Basically The Identity Theft Resource Center has declared Phoenix is the city at most risk for identity fraud. They also discuss how writing a check is NOT safer then banking online due to the scam called “check washing”. This scam is taking a check, erasing the ink and filling out a larger number. Luckily Uni-Ball makes a pen filled with “special” formulated ink that won’t wash off, for those who want to spend the money.
So if your like me in the phoenix area, put that bill on credit card and write less checks! This way you can rely on the credit card company to fight the payout rather then showing that you “may” have writing a check for the wrong amount.
Just a helpful tip for those who are writings checks or concern with online banking. Oh, and since I am discussing banking, I figured I would give out some cool links. Check out Mint a pretty cool site to manage your money. Also take a look at Wasabe, its pretty cool at tracking your expenses and yelling at you when you drop $10 a day at starbucks.
