Last night while attending refresh phoenix I was talking to the brian shaler about coworking and if anyone has been involved with it here in Phoenix. Well to my disappointment, no one has. But Brian did ask me to blog about coworking because no one at the table had heard of it. So I gathered a bit more information and links that I had from the first post about coworking.
wikipedia defines coworking as the following:
“Coworking is the social gathering of a group of people, who are still working independently, but who share values and who are are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with talented people in the same space”
After doing some Googling, I found ryan is hungry blog posted a great video about citizen space. (Another coworking place in san fran is hat factory.) The video features Brad Neuberg and Chris Messina and Tara Hunt. (Funny note: I never forget a face or person I run into or meet, so on that note I “met” (as in saw) Chris at iPhoneDevCamp this past summer.)
Anyway, I wanted to repost the video and hope you enjoy what ryan has put together, I know I have.

I also wanted to post up that Monday after Thanksgiving I stopped by CooperBricolage aka Gramstand and did a little coworking while on the go. I basically needed to send a large email and for some reason my gmail server wasn’t working, so I needed some free wifi to redtype (cause copy on iphone doesnt work!).
Anyway, my previous blog post about coworking also discusses paul dix’s experience with coworking as well as includes a video of Noel Hidalgo about coworking in NYC.
So hopefully that should give you an idea about what coworking is, who is doing it, and maybe get you involved with it, I know I need to. Since moving the the Phoenix area, I tried to attend at least 1 type of networking event a day. This allowed me to meet great people, but I was still isolated (still am) to working out of my apartment for most projects. Haivng a place to “hangout” and work with creative-like minded people is a great opportunity. As Brad says in the video, creating a Google like environment for independently working people.
So over the next 2 weeks I plan to stop by a couple of these coworking spots and hopefully meet some more great people.
