To some this is a Hawaiian T-shirt Friday, to others its the last day of a long week, to the some 150 engineers at Intel, its “Zero E-mail Fridays”. Intel encourages workers to phone or to meet face-to-face with other employees. This idea of talking allows for free-flowing of ideas and communication, rather then sending an email waiting for a response.
So I am a bit late on covering this story, but I saw it and rather then post it like every one else (thanks tim) I decided to post it later on to keep REMINDING people about it.
Email is something that I have been trying to kick and not check as much. I enjoy having email on my phone though, so I can read/respond while I am waiting to do something, this way I can maximize my time and not have any down time. I also NEED to start responding to the important messages first rather then waiting till later to address them. I know this can backup progress and not move things forward as fast, but as G.I. Joe says “Knowing is half the battle”.
So get on the phone or stop by their cube the next time you get an email from someone today. It’s Friday, enjoy it!

The following is my email response to the guru:
In response to your recent post “Its Friday so you know what that means?” I have to say that sounds like a terrible idea. I have found that putting engineers in a face to face meeting leads to 3 things, none or which help the bottom line.
1. Joking, General Shananigins
2. Arguing (nobody’s design is better than mine)
3. Uncomfortable, awkward silence (we are good with computers cuz we don’t like other people)
On the other hand email is for old people and we are not old thus should never use email…
