Have an idea for your next startup or new website. Working with a new outsourced developer on your next project? No matter if you are a nongeek, full time SEOer or a web designer here is a great list of 5 Firefox plugins that will save you time when working on a website project.
1. del.icio.us – I am a huge fan of having data and bookmarks online somewhere. So no matter if you are working from your own laptop or your coworkers laptop, you can still go to all your favorite websites as well as save them for later. I mainly use this plugin to save not only websites for myself, but also send to people using the for: command. This comes in hand when working with a small team of developers to send out or tag websites for them to checkout. Delicious is such a great tool and with firefox it has made the task so simple that a cave man CAN do it.
2. firebug – Firebug is just amazing when dealing with many lines of javascript code. Firebug is THE tool for any javascript work you are doing and comes in hand when doing some back of the envelope testing for speed and missing files. A MUST have for any web developer or designer as well as anyone making sure the developer has proper javascript code and doesn’t break anything.
3. Colorzilla – This plugin is great for using and testing colors while developing or editing some CSS code. It’s great to be able to pick a color from a website and use it. Although you can get color suggestions, it’s nice to have when getting inspired by a nicely designed website.
4. Measure It – This tool saves you time when you are trying to make something fit on a website. It’s easy, simple, and great for none designers. The next time a nondesigner asks for a banner ad size, tell them to try this and get back to you on the specifics.
5. Web Developer – The holy grail for most web developers. This is just a must have for anyone building websites.
Bonus: I just couldn’t keep this list to 5 so here is a bonus Firefox plugin:Search Status. While surfing and tracking down your competition, you may want to keep in mind things like Page Rank and Alexa Ranking to see how well you will be able to compete in the organic space when it comes down to SEO.
