I got myself a Roku which links to Netflix, Amazon video, and more (e.g. they now have mlb live for baseball fans). When we want to watch current TV there's always Hulu or any number of other websites which allow you to watch shows even the day after they air. It's an Adobe Air app from Hulu Labs that is just incredible for surfing around their different channels. I run it on my PC in the living room (which is mirrored to my TV via dual-display), and I control it with a little wireless keyboard from my couch. Have you tried Hulu Desktop?
