While working today something was brought to my attention that is pretty scary from a company who’s moto is “Don’t be evil” also know as Google. So while doing searching on blinklist via Google, I was pointed out by a coworker that Google is filtering results in a dare I say … “evil” manner. Take a look at the results listing below

Yes that is a small “This site may harm your computer.” link. I can understand this part and actually thought this might be interesting for searching. It’s the next parts that I start to mind, lets go a bit deeper. So let’s imagine we click on the link “This site my harm your computer”, it takes you to this page below.

Wow, so Google is flagging this link as “Strange behavior and malicious software” and is trying to make the website safe. Okay this is starting to get a bit creepy. I mean honestly, how do they know this, can’t their software be wrong a couple of times? Let’s continue on this search by clicking the link above the “This site may harm your computer”, also know as the result link.

BAM! It’s like you are at a lock down work cube and the “IT” department has flagged this site as <strike>porn</strike> bad. Okay, but what if I want to continue on, OMG no link, what? Yes that’s right, Google encodes the URL and does NOT link to the site. You can “continue at your own risk” as Google puts it, but you have to copy and past the encoded URL into your browser. I feel like this is policing the web and forcing users to “obey” their command.

But hey, did you notice that nice, Advisory provided by Google? Shouldn’t that make you feel warm inside? Maybe, but with Google now at a record high 67% of the search market this makes me rethink the future of the web. I know Google is trying to protect me, but what about the sites they flag that are false positives. Just think about it the next time your on Google and performing a search.

Okay, so I admit it, I am a white guy who enjoys listing to rap music. So watching some Rap videos, in this case a Jay Z song, I noticed instead of US dollars, they have Euros. (I guess this made the actually news like CNBC, which I refuse to watch). Anyway, I just finished watching the video and find it very funny that even in a rap music video, they do NOT use US Dollars, its like the US Dollar is not even worth it to be in a music video!

So the pic above is a clip from the music video below, this just screams get rid of your US Dollars. Invest, Now! As Robert says cash is trash, we need to stop investing in paper or put it into “savings”, the US Dollar is worth nothing, invest in Gold and Silver! I know I will be! The other point I want to make on this topic is the fact that our US dollar is not even backed by Gold or Silver. I wouldn’t get into the concept of how you can create more US dollars from nothing, but just look at asking for your credit cards to raise your limit, if they do and you max out your credit card. Boom! You just created more US dollars in our economy. It’s a crazy thing money, but seriously, how funny is it that the US Dollar is taken out of a Rap Music Video!

Jay-Z - Blue Magic (NEW)
Uploaded by Yannicklord

Enjoy!

Keeping with the Passive Income theme, I figure I would push more of playing Cashflow. Playing games and role playing teachers more by being active then passive. Anyone can sit in a lecture about Neural Networks, but who understands (or pays attention) to the lecture. When playing a game, you are involved with and interacting with other players. You are also exposed to what others are doing and how they are playing the game. Playing games like cashflow can teach you about financial education, before Robert created this game, he used to play monopoly. Another great board game about money while trying to win the game. I just have enjoyed playing this game and learning so much that I feel that I need to encourage my readers to check it out or drop me an email, and lets play in PHX.

I also want to give some press to Jovan Will who is relaunching the Alpha Cashflow Club this Saturday. I HIGHLY suggest stopping by this saturday and come and play/learn about passive income and cashflow. There will be plenty of people there for networking as well as teach you a thing or two about multiple sources of income. I hope to see you there if your in the PHX area.

The other day at the Refresh Phoenix meet up, we discussed how most blog posts and content cover the same product that will be obsolete in six months. This creates dead content as well as a plethora of throw-away blog posts. If all the bloggers could band together (wikipedia style) there would be a few great places with solid content rather than 10,000 blogs that paraphrase each other.

Most blogs that are gadget based, like engadget and/or gizmodo are constantly posting new gadget reviews and rumors that only have a 6 to 12 month shelf life on the internet.

Seriously, why cant we (as bloggers) create content that has a shelf life of 2 to 3 years. Lets write articles that are focused on the long term and building on top of them. I know I am not one to talk because I too tried to make my blog (at one point) a news web 2.0 site. I know I am a news junky and tend to follow trends, but these comments were an eye opener last night.

I follow Steve Pavlina, shoemoney, and John Chow and see how their making a LOT of money blogging and it’s mostly content that has a long shelf life. My favorite post of Steve’s is 10 reasons you should never have a job. This would have been relevant 100 years ago and probably will be for another 100 more! Blogging should not be post that you read about some cool toy (iphone?) and have 1,000 bloggers list the same (its cool) features, (okay maybe for some blogs) but seriously lets focus on quality content that has a long shelf life.

For myself I have been posting up some articles that hopefully help people as well as make them think about the various choices in my life. My last article about where you are in life (where are you, where are yo going, and how are you going to get there) should be a great example of an article that has a LONG shelf life. We as a community need to focus on quality content that has a long life rather then the 100000 reactions of what you think of the iPhone (yes i know I’m guilty of this, but hey its time to move on)

I know for myself some of my own personal blog entries like tips on moving cross country, how to social engineer a wii (since wii’s are still almost impossible to buy!), and from idea to prototype are always something of interests to people and do have a solid stream of readers that find them from Google.

I know the past couple of days I have been focusing on content that will be relevant in the next 5 years and hope to see you do the same.

Yesterday I posted how I met Tim Ferris. The past 3 days I have met and heard from some of the best entrepreneurs in the world. I attended the Joe Polish Super Conference 2007 (website is horrible, but the conference was AMAZING!). I will be posting some recaps after I take some action and GET THINGS DONE. I am sick of having projects that are 80% complete and before I can move on I need to FINISH and LAUNCH, so I guess I will keep you in the dark of my experience, until I can get my next venture launched.

As for the people who have NOT read his book, check out his book and my review of Tim Ferriss’s book the 4 hour work week. I also have ANOTHER GREAT OFFER for those who have or have not read his book. I will be giving away a signed copy of his book in the next few weeks. Yes, for those who have never heard of him or his ideas, concepts, or teachings, you can win a FREE AUTOGRAPHED COPY! I will be giving details to this exciting event tomorrow, so please stop by again and get a chance to win a autographed copy of Tim Ferriss’s 4 Hour Work Week. Also be sure to check out Tim’s Blog, it has some great information and always exciting to read and/or watch some of his videos.

Many of the key points he made in his 1 hour discussion and interview with Joe were in his book. Two great questions he started off were as followed:

1) If you could never retire how would you prioritize, choose your options, and change your daily life?
2) Is your life scalable? (for those none tech guys/girls reading this, do you have automation in place to keep tasks such as paying your bills and making money when you decided to go snowboarding for 4 months.)

Tim makes some other great points that we need to accept, not all of us will live forever, so you should GO OUT and LIVE THOSE DREAMS. He also discusses some key terms such as Target Monthly Income (TMI) that talks about how it DOES NOT take a millionaires bank account to drive or own an Enzo Ferrari.

One thing that SHOULD HIT HOME WITH READERS is that is that making more money can actually hurt your bottom line and life. For example, say you got a promotion from $90,000 to $100,000 a year, or a 10% increase, but you double your hours from 40 hours a week to 80 hours a week. You are actually LOSING MORE MONEY because YOUR HOURLY INCOME DROPPED based on money you make for time you spent. If you recalculate (not counting time off and using a 52 year week) your income based on time spent, you went from $43.26 an hour working 40 hours a week making $90,000 a year versus $24.03 an hour working 80 hour a week making $100,000 a year. So that extra $10,000 a year is COSTING YOU 40 HOURS PER WEEK IN TIME! You just received a huge pay DECREASE because you are working HARDER AND LONGER PER WEEK then before, making only a slight change in pay!

He discussed a great story of how he was working 100+ hours a week and his girlfriend at the time created this board with a picture of a business man with papers flying out using a cutout picture of Tim’s face saying, “Work stops at 5 PM”. This should hit home with people who are working like mad, (prolly busy work) and do not see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Tim mentions that you need the BALLS to say when enough is enough and this is MY TIME. You ONLY HAVE 1 Life! (besides reincarnation) Tim also shared some amazing stories and more recently discussed how he had 30 dates with 30 beautiful girls in 2 days for $300 by outsourcing the process. (Yes, you need to automate your life process) using 3 coffee shops and a team of people reviewing and replying to his personal ads.

There are plenty of other great things to say about Tim and his ideas/book, but I want to hear from the people who HAVE read his book and are implementing his practices and living their dreams! So please comment below and let me know how you are eliminating busy work as well as bad people in your life.

And don’t forget to stop by John Murch’s blog tomorrow for details on how to win a FREE AUTOGRAPH COPY OF Tim’s Book!

Our US dollar is LESS THEN THE CANADIAN, we are half of the British Pound, and even worse, our Stocks are droping. We need to WAKE UP and Take Charge, NOT STAY THE F#&$ing COURSE!

If you don’t believe me, maybe some books will help.

On this RANT (sorry) about what is happening, lets take a look at the Technology Sector. Apple only has about 8% of the market, yet 50 to 90 percent of college students and start ups are running on OS X. After posting some reviews I just CANNOT understand WHY most COMPANIES HAVEN’T SWITCHED. (okay maybe thats a bit bold of me) I am serious though, OS X offers an amazing backup system in place, screen sharing, video conferencing, Spaces, etc. We as America need to start RETHINKING our game plan and look at how China or India has gone from this 3rd world country to selling every child’s toy to the US!

So where does “Agile” fit into this game plan, well if your a Ruby Developer you know things change and you need to build things fast. Using Agile methods you can go from talking about something to having a working prototype, in a couple of minutes, hours, or weeks for LARGE projects. Being agile you break up projects into week or daily tasks by creating, testing, and continuing. Direction and/or Technology changes that FAST, you need to be ready for scaling a system from 10 users to 100,000 in a day. Working in corporate America I learned a lot and one thing that just BLOWs my mind is that their is NO system for positive/negative feedback that AFFECTS what your DOING!

Think about every project you worked on, during the project things changed, did someone suggest something and ACTION took place? Action is a powerful and hard to do verb. Attending the Get Motivated Seminar last week and talking about ACTION and how making that first step is what needs to get done. I know that I have been struggling with Action and/or completion of a Project due to either lack of resources or passion. Well hopefully you can get MOTIVATED and take Action.

So America, wake up and lets take action, look at getting involved either with the school system, your community, or even politically. You could even take action at work by doing some of the simplest things, try bringing in donuts and see how people react and if this increases productivity.

If you haven’t already please check out my prereview of OS X 10.5. Since Friday, I have picked up Leopard, got a FREE shirt, and started to use/play around with this new OS. So far, I can only say good things about it. I enjoy the new finder and especially enjoy spaces. I find Leopard a MUST UPDATE for users who want more of a way to transform their life to a digital version. The new Mail App is pretty slick, and I have been using it not only to send mail, but as a backup to Gmail. (Yea, I guess thats a bit strange, but hey, you never know).

Anyway, I am amazed at Time Machine, but I would have liked to seen the “network” storage, rather then USB/Firewire. As for the new updates to IChat, WOW! Its like they finally listen! The ease of viewing profiles and adding fun backgrounds to video chat is awesome! I also love the ability to share files and screen share. Its pretty slick, a MUST in any small biz job site.

So I enjoy Leopard, but what do my readers thing? Let me know your views, problems, concerns.

Continuing with my previous story about apple in the work place, I have been following the crazy of Apple Computers (sorry, Apple Inc) since the release of OS X. Although I will be the first to say I was a mac hater and never “drank” the apple juice until the launch of the 17in Powerbook. Yes, I was one of those who picked up that MASSIVE machine and used it for some video editing and everything else under the sun. Then when Tiger hit the scene it was game over for me, I migrated down to a 12in powerbook and was a mac advocate. With the move to intel based machines I had to upgrade as well as get some family members a new computer (You’re welcome Mom and Nicole).

Anyway, when growing up the public schools ALWAYS had apples, between the Apple II E, Macintosh, iMacs, and the G3s I would always see Apple computers in the classrooms. Well moving up to college it was a DIFFERENT BALL PARK. Each school recommended (Required?) a PC and well, as for macs, I was not “drinking the juice” just yet. (Give me about 6 months of college and then I was an Apple Nut.) I know Apple Inc has changed A LOT while I was growing up, between the Ending of Steve to the Coming of Steve with the iPod, Apple has changed a lot over the years, but schools need to step up and follow.

Being a graduate of college, I have seen first hand what works in school as well as how to keep track of homework, quizzes, tests, and assignments in 5 to 6 classes. This would keep any student busy and with a job… forget about it. OS X just has it all with Mail, iCal, iPhoto, etc and with OS X 10.5 just around the corner (Are you getting your copy tonight?), its gonna change peoples minds. I was just BLOWN AWAY that the University of Vermont BUSINESS SCHOOL REQUIRED YOU TO HAVE ALL MICROSOFT PRODUCTS! I DID NOT want to “downgrade” so I was forced to have Virtual PC running XP while I was taking classes (Before intel chipset was released). The only “reason” I can get from people when I say Apple vs Windows is cost, but if you look at how much “longer” or more “support” Apple offers its AMAZING. My 12in powerbook is STILL support for 10.5 that will be released this Friday, its over 2 years old and the last of its rev! As I recall it was hard enough “upgrading” to Vista without buying parts, let alone if you want Aero Graphics.

Okay, so maybe I went a bit far on this, but I just feel that schools, companies, business, need to say F U to Microsoft and start thinking in a “smarter” fashion with OS X. I find it interesting at all the “startups” I have been to as well as worked with, everyone either has a linux box and/or is running it on a Mac. I know corporate has run on Windows long enough, and I can understand the pain, trust me I have been there and have worked on Windows during the day and OS X at night.

The last thing that has just BLOWN me away, is the past couple of weeks I have been doing some on-site PC help and every time I am fixing some problem I am SCREAMING GET A MAC inside, but with programs like Quickbooks and other “suck you in software” not releasing a OS X version (although Quickbooks plans to next year) yet… its just hard for currently small companies and/or people in “Corporate America” to switch. You could just dual boot and/or run virtual machines, but some people just don’t want to drink the juice. So with that being said, I hope to see more schools back to its roots with an Apple rather then the corporate dullness of a PC.

Each time I walk into a company I always checkout what kind of computer they are using. With the recent move to intel chipsets, Apple is not a corporate word. There is no need to go windows, os x, or linux you can run all 3 on 1 machine! That’s right and that is why I am STILL DON’T GET WHY corporate America is not migrating faster! With the release (failure?) of Vista I have seen a lot of larger Fortune (insert # here) companies either wait for upgrades or start to switch users to a mac, so they can both a windows and os x environment. With the release of Leopard around the corner (tonight?), I have a gut feeling that this is the tipping point when apple starts to pickup a LOT of market share. With their stock going through the roof since the past couple of months, something has to change.
